Zelmer Jones, 85, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., Feb. 14, 2012, at his son’s residence in Dothan.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Keahey Funeral Home.

 

CHARLES C. CLARK

Charles C. Clark, 85, of Dozier, died Mon., Feb. 13, 2012, in the Andalusia Manor nursing facility.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m., today, Wed., Feb. 15, at Goodhope Cemetery with the Rev. Frankie McVay officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation with the family will be at the cemetery.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Bill R. and Catherine Clark of Andalusia; his sister, Annie Jo Malone of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a large number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

WILLIAM A. CLARK

William A. Clark, 84, of Red Level, died Sun., Feb. 12, 2012, at his residence.

He attended Red Level School, Stark University and Marion Institute. He also served six years in the U. S. Army.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., today, Wed., Feb. 15, at the Fairmount Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the cemetery.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Dorothy B. Clark of Red Level, and his nieces.

He is predeceased by his brother, Richard “Dick” Clark, also of Red Level.

AVIS KIRKLAND STROUD

Avis Kirkland Stroud, 86, of Red Level, died Sat., Feb. 11, 2012, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services were held on Tues., Feb. 14, at the South Church of God in Red Level, with ministers Kenneth Mitchell, Joel Calhoun, Carl Turman and Larry Turman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Willene Stroud Little of Red Level; son-in-law, Tom Mitchell of Red Level; her grandchildren, Kenneth and Janice Mitchell, Kathy and Mark Watley and James and Cindy Stroud; eight great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild; sister, Evelyn Smalls of Red Level; several nieces and nephews; and extended family members, James and Jeanice Sims, Etta Windham, Mary Grace and Donald Moses and Joel and Alice Calhoun.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stroud; her son, Richard Stroud; daughter, Mary Helen Mitchell; brothers, Weldon, Leroy, James B., Robert L. and Willie Ray Kirkland; and sisters, Lou Emma Griggs, Alma Blackwell and Frances Craig.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Mills Chapel Church of God, 9808 Ivey Creek Road, Brantley, AL 36009.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Wallace, Trent Stroud, Brandon Watley, Paul Stacks, Jerry Blackwell and Jerry Grissett.

GLEN E. COCKCROFT

Glen E. Cockcroft, 87, of Gantt, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 11, 2012, in his son’s home, with his loving wife by his side.

Born Sept. 29, 1924, in Red Oak, he was a son of the late Reuben and Mertie Cockcroft.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Cockcroft; daughters Ann (Charles) Bateman and Lynn (Daniel) Ramsier; son, Alan (Cindy) Cockcroft; brother, Ernest (Fay) Cockcroft; sister, Shirley (Alex) Evans; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army’s 2nd and 5th armored divisions from 1943 to 1946. He fought in four major battles, from Normandy to Berlin, and including the Battle of the Bulge.

He earned his bachelor of science degree at Troy State, his master’s at Peabody and did post graduate work at the University of Alabama. He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi honors fraternity.

He began his career as the principal and a teacher of Midway Elementary. He moved to his high school alma mater to teach math and served as the principal of the Florala High School from 1951-1966.

In 1966, he moved to Sebring, Fla., and became a charter member teaching math at the South Florida Junior College, and where he later served as director of admissions for 22 years.

He was very active in the Southern Baptist Church. He was ordained a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Florala in 1960. He also served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for the First Baptist Church of Sebring, Fla.

After retiring, he moved back to Alabama and joined the First Baptist Church of Andalusia.

He enjoyed reading, fishing, sports and travel (all 50 states and Europe). Most of all, he enjoyed being with family, drinking coffee and talking.

The viewing will be at 5 p.m., today, Wed., Feb. 15, at Foreman Brown Service Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., on Thurs., Feb. 16, at the Red Oak Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

ELLEN LOUISE KNOWLES WORLEY

Ellen Louise Knowles Worley passed away on Fri., Feb. 10, 2012, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were held at Foreman Funeral Home on Feb. 14, with Brother Dennis Knowles officiating. Burial followed at Enon Cemetery in the Red Oak Community.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1930, in Andalusia and attended school at Red Level High School. She lived most of her life in Pensacola, Fla., where she was a homemaker and an advertising sales rep.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life and the loving father of her children, Billy Odean Worley; her parents, Alton and Alice Knowles; her brother, Brad Knowles; and her sister, Mildred Presley.

She is survived by her son, William Timothy Thomasson; her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Billy Ray Campbell; two granddaughters, Crystal Ramos and Ciara Campbell, and one great grandson, Elijah Ramos, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Rilla Knowles and Tom and Elaine Knowles, a special sister-in-law, Betty Knowles; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were Joe Knowles, Ricky Knowles, Gary Lee, Kent Barnes, Randy Davis and Dwayne Wilkerson.
