Wells announces bid for District 2 commissioner

Tony Wells has announced his intent to run for the office of Covington County Commission District 2 on the Republican ticket.

Well is a native of Covington County and worked for Liberty National Life for 23 years. After retiring from Liberty National, he worked for Covington County as a department head for eight years. He said he learned the inner workings of the county as a department head, and would like to continue to build and support the county through the county commission.

Wells said he believes in “transparency in government” and believes the people of Covington County deserve to know what the county is developing and doing with their tax monies.

Wells is married to Julie Thigpen Wells, who has been a teacher in Covington County for 32 years. They have three children, Mike, Jim, and Alry Wells.

He is a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he is a deacon. He is on the State Board for the Alabama Quarter Horse Association, as well as Alabama Horse Council County Representative. He is also on the Covington County Cattlemen’s Association board of directors, Covington County Republican Executive Committee, Forestry Planning Committee, and he serves on the Sanford Town Council. Wells has been a member of the Andalusia Kiwanis Club for 29 years, and also enjoys supporting and working with Community Christmas.

Wells said Covington County has excellent schools, law enforcement, community volunteers, and county and city leaders. Wells said he would like to do his part to continue to build this community into a great place to raise children and retire.
