Ever since Nov. 29, Andalusia and Monroe County have had time to get better and improve throughout the season.

The Bulldogs and Tigers will come face-to-face tomorrow night to decide who will advance and who will go home in the semifinals of the Class 4A South Regional Tournament at the Mitchell Center on the University of South Alabama’s campus in Mobile.

“I know Monroe County is a much better team than they were when we played them in November, but I think we are, too,” AHS coach Richard Robertson said.

The Bulldogs beat MCHS 49-40 at home in that regular season game.

“They’ve got a lot of quickness,” Robertson said. “Right now, I’m working on Andalusia.

“(Tuesday night) and (today) we’ll formulate a plan for them and we’ll see what we can do,” he said.

Andalusia is coming off of a 53-47 victory over Alabama Christian Academy in the sub regional last week. The Bulldogs almost blew a 17-point lead and narrowly lost late in the game due to errant turn overs.

Robertson said that won’t happen again.

“We’re supposed to be a mature basketball team,” he said. “We have four seniors and a junior starter.

“Our seniors are one loss from their career being over. We set goals before the season started,” he said. “We’re taking it gone game at a time.”

Robertson said he’s heard that Monroe County is exceptionally good.

“We’ll do the best we can,” he said. “They’re a young bunch, and real quick. Everybody tells me they’re really good — everybody that I’ve talked to.

“You’re not going to find a weakness in the regional (tournament),” he said. “These days, you’ve got to be strong to survive.”
