Covington County’s paved roads are ranked seventh in overall quality in the state, county engineer Darren Capps told the commission Monday.

Capps said the county moved from eighth to seventh with a score of 92.36.

Capps said state officials ride the county’s roads, which are scored on criteria such as surface, edging and other conditions.

Capps said the county is up for another inspection in April.

“Seventh in the state out of 67 counties is excellent,” said Brenda Petty, county administrator.

Commissioner Bragg Carter said the counties that placed ahead of Covington County were larger counties such as Jefferson, Mobile and Houston counties.
