Myron Alvis Nelson

Myron Alvis Nelson, 79, of River Falls, died Mon., March 5, 2012, in the Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., today, Tues., March 6, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Boles officiating, with burial following in Carolina Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Myron and Jody Nelson Jr., of Salem, Ala., and Michael and Elsie Nelson of Andalusia, his grandchildren, Jeremy (Kashawna) Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Kelly Nelson and Amanda Hallford; six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Barbara Lawson of Andalusia.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Timothy Fowler, John Little, Delwyn Mills and Skipper Howell.

Leslie William Roberts

Leslie William Roberts, 73, of Andalusia, died on Sat., March 3, 2012, in Andalusia.

Funeral services were held on Mon., March 5, at 3 p.m., from the Foreman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Josh Wilson officiated, and eulogies were given by Tim Frey, Tom Medlock and Vann Roberts.

Pallbearers were Tim Glisson, Randall Summerford, Chase Glisson, Olin Hackney, Tom Medlock and Vann Roberts.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Roberts of Andalusia; three daughters, Vickie Roberts, Leslie R. Glisson, and husband, Tim, of Andalusia, and Connie R. Summerford, and husband, Randall Jr., of League City, Texas; and four grandchildren, Chase Glisson, Ashlan Glisson, Paul Summerford and Isaac Summerford.

He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church for several years and was also a retired investment broker.

He founded Roberts and Roberts, a regional investment firm headquartered in Pensacola, Fla., in 1977 and served as its president until his retirement in early 2007.

During this time, Mr. Roberts also became an avid runner and founded the McGuire’s Running Club in Pensacola, which today has more than 800 members. McGuire’s Running Club was featured in an article in Runner’s World Magazine in 2008.

Mr. Roberts was also a published author whose novel The Poison Plum, was published in 2006 and is based upon his experiences with Lyme Disease.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Bethany Baptist Church Youth Ministry Fund.

Moses Gordon Hallford

Moses Gordon Hallford, 86, left this world to be with his heavenly father on Feb. 29, 2012, at a Mobile hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., today, Tues., March 6, at Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. John Eiland and the Rev. Keith Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Covington County and a resident of Andalusia, he was blessed to have many family and friends. He was retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines, giving 35 years of service, having joined at the age of 15. One of his joys in life was the youth of those he surrounded himself with.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randy Gordon Hallford (Cindy Locke) of Garner N.C; one grandchild, Amanda Marie Hallford of Anderson, S.C.; lifelong friend and confidant, Helen Hallford Sarkis of Mobile; three sisters, Bessie Reynolds of Mobile, Bertie Mae Spears of Atlanta, Ga., and Virginia Norwood of San Antonio, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Junior “Red” Hallford (Jackie) of Red Level sister-in-law, Jean Hallford of Loxey; his beloved dog, Sancho; several nieces and nephews; and an enormous church family at Green Tree Christian Fellowship of Andalusia.

He was preceded in death by brothers, W.T., Rob, Otis and Wilson, and sister, Addeline Blair.

The family extends a special thank you to those of Andalusia Regional Hospital, Andalusia Manor, Mobile Infirmary, Infirmary Hospice and all those whose life he touched during his last days.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest contributions to any of the following: Green Tree Building Fund, Infirmary Hospice, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the U. S. Veterans Association.

Edith Madonna Blackmon

Edith Madonna Blackmon, 82, of Andalusia’s Point A, died Thurs., March 1, 2012, at her residence.

Funeral services were held Sat., March 3, at Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Hank Roberts officiating. Interment followed at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Blackmon of Andalusia; sons, Terry Glenn (Patsy) Blackmon of Panama City, Fla., and David Michael (Nancy) Blackmon of Andalusia; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances (James) Nelson of Pensacola, Fla.

OLA MAE DARBY

Ola Mae Darby, 78, of Andalusia, passed away Sat., March 3, 2012, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., today, Tues., March 6, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with Keahey Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Darby, and brother, Raford Carpenter.

Pallbearers include Randall Griffin, Donnie Weaver, Glenn Weaver, Preston Weaver, Levon Ziglar, Jimmy Waite and Frankie Weaver.

Sally Emily Morgan

Sally Emily Morgan, 86, of Douglasville, Ga., passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012.

She was born February 25, 1926 in Dozier, one of 15 children of the late Frank and Mertice Barlow Hammett. She was preceded in death by two bothers and seven sisters. She loved cooking and taking care of her children and grandchildren, and in her later years, worked in retail sales in the Douglasville community. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Douglasville, Ga.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clarence “C.J.” Morgan of Douglasville, Ga.; children, Dennis Morgan, and his wife, Martha, of Braselton Ga., C.C. Morgan, and his wife, Ginny, of Powder Springs, Ga., Kenneth Morgan of Douglasville, Ga., Susan Rady, and her husband, David, of Marietta, Ga., Gail Guthrie of Villa Rica, Ga., Terry Morgan, and his wife, Leesa, of Dallas, Ga., and Shannon Morgan, and his wife, Charlotte, of Dallas, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Artis Hammett and Horace Hammett; sisters, Annie Jo Moore, Cupidine Eiland and her husband, Douglas, and Joyce Grimes, and her husband, Thurmon; special nephew, Charles Moore; many dearly loved nieces and nephews; and one of her best friends, Betty Wadsworth.

She was cremated, and there will be a memorial service held on Sat., March 10, at 2 p.m., at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home in Douglasville, Ga., with the Rev. Charles Gibbs officiating.
