Sirmon strikes out 8, allows 2 hits in 12-1 win

Lane Sirmon struck out eight batters and threw a two-hitter in seven innings to help lead the Blue Jays to a 12-1 victory over the Yankees in 13-to-15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball action on Monday night at Andalusia High School.

In the night cap, the Rays edged the Rangers, 4-1.

With this victory, the Blue Jays remain undefeated this season.

Sirmon’s two hits allowed came to the Andalusia’s Yankees’ Riley Eiland and Hunter Earnest, who went 1-for-3 each. Eiland had a double and Earnest had a single.

In addition to Sirmon’s commanding performance on the mound, the Blue Jays had five players with multiple hits.

Daryl George went 4-for-4 with four singles and three runs to lead the Blue Jays. Sirmon went 3-for-3 with two singles and two runs; Gunter Wise and Andrew George went 3-for-4 each (Wise had two doubles and a triple, and George had three singles and two runs); and Ty Ballard went 2-for-4 with a double and one run.

The Blue Jays scored two runs each in the first and second innings; four runs in the fourth; and three runs in the seventh.

Rays 4, Rangers 1

The Rays scored two runs in the first inning and two runs in the fifth inning to get the win.

A. West went 1-for-3 with a double for the Rays.

Sim Bowden led the Rangers and went 1-for-3 with a single and a run.

The Blue Jays will be back in action tonight against the White Sox at 5:30. The Yankees play the Rangers at 5:30 p.m., and the Rays play the Phillies at 7:45 p.m. tomorrow.
