Opp’s 10 and under All-Stars beat Brewton 10-2 on Tuesday night to earn a ticket to the district championship in Evergreen.
The 10U team scored four runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-2 lead, and topped the game with two runs in the sixth to take the win.
“It was a good ball game,” Opp coach Michael Smithart said. “We think our kids are playing real well right now.
“Our pitchers are doing a nice job,” he said. “We have kids that have had timely hits come up for us.”
With this victory, Opp will face the winner of Covington County-Brewton in the district championship tonight at 6.
Logan Ross went 2-for-3; Taylor Duffell went 3-for-5; and Clay Ashbury went 2-for-3 to lead Opp.
Isaiah Peters pitched the first two innings; Ross threw in the third and fourth innings; and Duffell pitched the final two in the fifth and sixth innings.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge (tonight),” Smithart said.
