FRANKLIN LEWIS SHUFORD
Franklin Lewis Shuford of Opp passed away Tues., July 17, 2012, at Andalusia Regional Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1936, in Hamilton , Ga., to the late Lewis & Inez Shuford. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Day.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet Carol Shuford (Salter) of Opp; his seven children, Darcey Ansley (Floyd) of Atlanta, Ga., Kathleen Johnston (Dan) of Chesterfield, Va., Franklin L. Shuford, Jr. (Barbara) of Mobile, Robert Shuford of Daleville, Frank Shuford III (Darla) of Olive Branch, Miss., Kristy White (Charles) of Andalusia, and Janet Turner (Steve) of Opp; his grandchildren, Jessica, Kathleen, and Thomas Ansley, Aaron Turner (Johnstone), Daniel, Zachary, and Courtney Johnstone, John Frank Shuford, Caleb and Hudson Shuford, Taylor and Madison White; Breanna, Stevie, and Betty Lynn Turner; and one great-grandchild, Isaac Turner.
He attended Auburn University and worked as a civil engineer for Eglin Air Force Base before medically retiring in 1992. He also retired after 34 years as a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard.
He coached girl’s softball, boy’s baseball, and midget and termite football for the city of Opp for more than 20 years. He was a former Civitan. He served on the Covington County Water Board and was known to the nurses at Andalusia Regional Hospital as “The Candyman.” He was avid about Auburn football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a caring husband and father. His grandchildren were his world.

MICHAEL WAYNE JONES
Michael Wayne Jones, 53, of Red Level, died Fri., July 13, 2012, at his residence.
Graveside services were held Tues., July 17, at the South Church of God Cemetery in Red Level with the Rev. Billy Boles officiating and Foreman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Dewayne Griggs of Red Level and Kathy and Dennis Parker of Summerville, S.C.; his brothers, Tommy Jones of Las Vegas and Loomis Jones of Red Level; a son, Scott Sims of Sylacauga; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
Pallbearers were John McIntyre, Phil Rose, John Potter, Damien Tyler, David Bush and Terry Williamson.

AVA GLENN MAY
Ava Glenn May, 98, of Andalusia, passed away Mon., June 25, 2012.
She was born in Cuba, Ala., to the late William Bryant and Anie McElroy Tate. She spent her youth there, graduating from Cuba High School in 10932 as the valedictorian of her class. She attended the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Tri-Delta social sorority. She graduated in 1936.
She taught school in Andalusia for most of her teaching career. She was a longtime member and past president of the Parnassus Club. For many years, she played piano in the church nursery and was actively involved in the ministry of the Presbyterian Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Edwin L. “Ed” May.
She is survived by her tow sons, William L. (Helga) May and Edwin L. (Darien) May Jr.; grandchildren, Ava Louise May, David Edwin May, William Tyler May, and Elizabeth May Cobb; and great-grandchildren, Alison May, Amelia May and Lili Cobb.
She will also be remembered by her loving and devoted niece, Ellen Tate Patterson, and by her longtime friend and teaching associate, Helen Zeanah.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Comfort Care Hospice for every kindness expressed.
A memorial service will be held today, Wed., July 18, at the First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dale Sallans and the Rev. Billy Boles officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the organ or music fund at the First Presbyterian Church. Foreman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
