Red Level blew a 22-12 lead midway through the third period and went on to suffer a bitter 50-35 loss to J.F. Shields on Friday night in Beatrice.

Tigers’ guard Dee Tolbert hit two 3-pointers and KJ Lawrence added some free throws later to get RLS ahead 22-12 and in full control.

RLS coach Allen Catrett said J.F. Shields started pressing the team and went man to man on defense.

“We started having too many turnovers,” Catrett said. “We had a good game plan against them.”

JFSHS went on to outscore RLS 20-9 in the fourth period.

Lawrence led RLS with 16 points; Spencer Stallworth had nine points; Tolbert had eight points; and Justin Maddox had two points.

Red Level led throughout the first half — 11-6 after the first period and 14-10 at halftime — and went on an 8-2 run to start the second half.

On the season, Catrett thanked his two seniors — Lawrence and Maddox — for all of their hard work since he’s been at RLS.

“I appreciate the whole team for their effort,” he said. “They all got after it and played hard.

“I wanted to especially recognize the seniors for everything they put in this program for the last three years I’ve been here,” he said.

The Tigers finished the season 16-14.
