JAMES SHELBY SEARCY

James Shelby Searcy, age 84, a resident of Greenville, passed away on Wed., Oct. 30, 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Sat., Nov. 2, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. the First Baptist Church of Greenville and a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Dr. Harrell Cushing and the Rev. Don Yancey officiating.

A graveside service conducted by Dr. John Searcy of Dothan at 2:30 p.m. at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery, located on the Florala Highway.

He was an active church member, teaching Bible study classes and serving as deacon at the First Baptist Church in both Andalusia and Greenville. He and his wife served on several mission projects in six different states. He professed his belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized in 1942 while growing up in Andalusia and attending First Baptist Church.

His recreational life was centered on a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and hunting and had a passion for fishing. Special fishing buddies included Mike Newman of Enterprise and Charlie Thompson of Chelsea. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Rachel, across all 50 states as well as several foreign countries.

A graduate of Andalusia High School and Troy State College, he served his country on the USS Renville during the Korean conflict, receiving four battle stars during his time of military service. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Andalusia in 1955 as a teacher and coach at Andalusia High School.

During 37 years in public education, he served as school administrator with the Andalusia City Schools, Superintendent of Education for Butler County Schools (Greenville), and Superintendent of Education for the Union School (Union, Miss.).

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rachel M. Searcy; sons, James Shelby (Allison) Searcy Jr. of Prattville and Eric Francis (Jenny) Searcy of Andalusia; and grandchildren, Shelby Tyler Searcy, Troy McDonald Searcy, Jennifer Leigh Searcy and Catherine Grace Searcy.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Marie Searcy; his parents, Dwight Moody and Ercie Lunsford Searcy; and a sister, Jeanette Searcy Carlisle.

Honorary pallbearers include Dennis Anderson, Gerald Benson, Wayne Brooks, Bill Campbell, Herb Carlisle, Elliott Dansby, Neal Dansby, Pete Hamilton, Ab Powell, Tommy Powell and Wayne Woodham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to one’s chosen charity.

JOSEPHINE HARRIS

Josephine Harris, 78, of Andalusia, died Wed., Oct 30, 2013, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Sat., Nov. 2, at 10 a.m., from the Foreman Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Joel Calhoun officiating and interment following in the Harmony Cemetery.

Visitation will be held tonight at 6 at the funeral home.

She is survived by four sons, Calvin (Michelle) Harris, Coston (Margaret) Harris, Robert (Carolyn) Harris and Ernest Ray Harris, all of Andalusia; five daughters, Barbara (Rick) Long of Andalusia, Phyllis Ludlow of Birmingham, Mary Nell (Glenn) Scroggins of Red Level, Brenda (Tony) Richburg and Lisa (Michael) Peek, both of Andalusia; 39 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, James Gilmore, Devaughn Gilmore and John Gilmore, all of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Harris; daughter, Sue Huckabaa; and son, Perre Harris.

RONALD EUGENE ANDERSON SR.

Ronald Eugene Anderson Sr., 51, passed away on Oct. 30, 2013, at his Andalusia residence.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m., Sat., Nov. 2, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-8 at the funeral home.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald E. Anderson Jr. and wife, Lindley, of Andalusia; daughter, Stephanie Lynn Anderson of Andalusia; three sisters, Debra Jean Pimberton of Evergreen, Teresa Ann Steele of Andalusia and Susan Renee Brooks of Troy; and two brothers, Roy Leon Denny of Jasper and Wilburt Darrell Denny of Andalusia.

Pallbearers will be John Boggan, Walter Hughes, Kevin Martin, Bill Hamby, Danny Ellisor and Tom Hinton.
