Corner Market redevelopment gets break

The Andalusia City Council Tuesday night OK’d a resolution that will rebate a portion of the sales taxes collected at businesses planned at the former location of Piggly Wiggly and Corner Market.

Dubbed the Corner Market redevelopment project with M. Anthony King as the developer, the project includes the addition of high-speed diesel pumps, a convenience store, sporting goods, a custom meat market, and the existing restaurant.

The council will rebate 2 cents of sales taxes collected there for a period of five years.

Mayor Earl Johnson said this development is important because it is at a high profile entrance to Andalusia, and it will create 30 to 40 jobs.

“This represents more than a million-dollar investment,” Johnson said.
