Channell-Lee Stadium was bustling most of the day Friday as vendors and the rodeo crew geared up for the 54th annual Rattlesnake Rodeo.

Rodeo coordinator Don Childre said that vendors would be setting up all day yesterday and would be ready for today’s event, which begins at 8 a.m.

Childre said there were 57 of the day’s main attraction – the Eastern diamondback rattlesnake – and he was expecting about 15 more to slither in on Friday.

“We’ve gotten a few more hunters this year,” he said. “That has made for a better year.”

A 5K run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Opp High School.

Crowd favorites such as the snake races will take place at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and the championship will be held at 2:15 p.m.

The infamous World Championship Buck Dancing Contest will be held at 2:30 p.m., followed by the greasy pole climb.

Saturday’s entertainment will feature local celebrities Tori Reisnour, Taylor Weeks and Lamar Morris before the Dusty Sanderson Band opens for headliner Easton Corbin, who takes the stage at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, gates open at 10 a.m.

A church service will begin at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Horsby of Southside in Opp bringing the message.

A snake race and show will be held at 12:30 p.m., and Christian music’s JT Jordan Band, J.O.E. (Jesus Owns Everything) will kickoff at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.

At 4 p.m., Hawk Nelson featuring Satellites & Sirens and Lybecker, Family Force 5 and Building 429 will perform.
