The Inter Se Club held its April meeting on April 2 in the Dixon Room of the Andalusia Public Library.

Refreshments were served by hostesses Nan Pike, Lenora O’Neal and Harriet Smith.

Decorations were in a lovely Easter theme and refreshments were so delicious.

The program was presented by David Darby, who is a member of the Rotary Club.

He was introduced by Marilyn O’Neal.

David and his wife Laura moved to Andalusia in 1983.

Their tow children are Stephen and Sarah.

One has completed college and the other will graduate soon.

In 1976 during the bicentennial celebration Mayor Chambers Bryant encouraged the clubs to do something special as a project.

It was Rotary Club member Charles Tomberlin, who came up with the idea of having a domino tournament.

All agreed this would be a great idea, and so the Domino Tournament was launched.

In July of this year, the 39th tournament will be held, and it continues to be most successful.

People are attracted to this tournament from many states.

Other interesting facts members were told were:

One tournament had about 300 to attend from a dozen states.

Regular players have returned each year to play in the tournament once more.

Much money has been received through this project, and over the years more than $85,000 has been given back to the community.

About $25,000 is given yearly to community projects and needs.

People plan their vacation around the tournament dates and find fun and entertainment for all when they arrive.

There is a copyright name for the tournament and no one else can claim it.

It is called the World Champion Domino Tournament.

Prize money is very good and states who have been constant in attendance include Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Kansa and Oklahoma.

Andalusia has greatly enjoyed all the fun and benefits involved in the domino tournament.

A good idea by Charles Tomberlin became a rock-solid project.
