A Covington County man has been arrested and charged with unemployment fraud.

Alabama Department of Revenue spokesperson Tara Hutchison confirmed Thursday that Jason Covington, 35, was charged with violating the Alabama unemployment compensation law for making false statements on claims for unemployment benefits.

“An investigation by the Department of Labor Benefit Payment Control section alleges that he received $3,194 in unemployment compensation benefits to which he was not entitled,” she said. “He has not yet appeared in court to answer for these charges.”

He is being held on a $20,00 bond.
