March brings with it two of my favorite times of year, MLB Spring Training and NCAA March Madness. I’m here to talk a little about the latter.

 

The field of 64 has been set, and the madness is about to begin.

 

First of all, I believe that this is Kentucky’s tournament to lose. They have clearly been the best team all season long, and are arguable one the greatest college basketball teams to ever grace the court.

 

Everyone knows Kentucky’s credentials, so I won’t spend any more time on them. I would like talk about a few double-digit seeds that could pull off early upsets, and make waves in the tournament as potential Cinderellas.

 

The first team is 14-seed Eastern Washington in the South. Eastern Washington will face 4-seed Georgetown in the opening round, and the Hoyas better bring their A-game to knock off the upset-minded Eastern Washington squad. Eastern Washington has the nation’s leading scorer in Tyler Harvey, and Georgetown has lost in the first round three of its last four trips.

 

Wofford comes in to the tournament as a 12-seed and will face 5-seed Arkansas in the first round. Last season, the Terriers gave Michigan a run for their money before falling by 17.

 

The biggest upset potential lies in 14-seed Georgia State. The Panthers will face 3-seed Baylor, and Baylor comes in as only a 7.5-point favorite. The Panthers have former Louisville star Kevin Ware, and former Kentucky guard Ryan Harrow. RJ Hunter is probably the Panthers best player, and if the Panthers can pull off an upset in round one there is a good chance they could meet up with Arizona in the Sweet 16.

 

Anything can happen on the road to the Big Dance. It’s part of what makes it fun to watch, and why March is madness.
