Opp advances to South Regional in Gulf Shores

The Opp Bobcats were perfect on their way to the Class 3A, Area 2 championship after beating T.R. Miller 3-0, 10-0 Thursday at home.

Courtney Chatham pitched a perfect game in the championship game as the Lady Bobcats’ offense surged to the 10-0 win.

“Chatham’s been our hoss all year,” OHS coach Jimmy Reeves said. “She was on (Thursday). We played good defense behind her. We smoked the ball pretty well.

“Anna Harrelson pitched a one-hitter in the first game,” he said.

Opp’s 3-0 victory over TRM gave it a berth in the area championship game.

Harrelson started in the pitching circle, and didn’t allow a hit until the top of the fifth.

Opp took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Tori Reisnour singled to lead off the inning, and came around to score on off a throwing error on sacrifice bunt attempt from Chatum.

The Lady Bobcats added their final two runs in the bottom of the second inning when Reisnour drove Katlynn Schively and Sara Ballard.

Harrelson continued to dominate from the pitching circle, but two errors and a dropped third strike led to the Lady Tigers loading the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth,

Harrelson never let it faze her, as she got a ground out from the next batter to put a stop to the threat

Schively later entered the game in relief of Harrelson in top of the sixth, and only allowed two hits and three baserunners in her two innings of work to pick up the save.

Harrelson worked five-masterful innings for the Lady Bobcats only, allowing one hit en route to the win.

Reisnour led the way at the plate for the Lady Bobcats going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

“We just had a great day,” Reeves said.

The Lady Bobcats travel to Gulf Shores on Thursday for the AHSAA South Regional tournament.
