A Florala family who lost their home and everything in it in a fire Sunday morning is reaching out to the community to help them get back on their feet.

Florala Fire Chief Jarred Martin said Thursday that the department was dispatched to 2267 Fifth Ave., around 5:41 a.m.

They fought the fire, which began in the rear of the structure, until 7:54 a.m.

“They lost most everything,” he said. “Thankfully, no one was at the home at the time of the fire.”

Martin said the state fire marshal’s office has ruled the cause undetermined.

Kanhia Kendrick said she was thankful that the family wasn’t home.

“We are very lucky,” she said. “It could have been bad.”

Kendrick has three children, and she and her mother also need clothing.

She has a 7-year-old daughter, who wears 8-9 pants in juniors, size 2 shoes and medium shirts in juniors.

She has an 8-year-old daughter who wears 18 shorts in husky, large women’s shirts and 4-5 shoes.

Her 5-year-old son wears 8-9 pants and shirts in boys and size 1 shoes.

Kendrick said she wears a size zero in pants, small shirts and size 9.5 in shoes.

Her mom wears a size 10 in pants, medium shirts and 7.5 in shoes.

“Please just worry about my kids first,” she said.
