In the first round of the AHSAA state playoffs, all three Covington County teams pulled off victories to keep their title dreams alive and well.

In 4A action, Region 2 champion Andalusia dismantled Region 4’s West Blocton 48-0.

Andalusia dominated in every aspect of the contest, and after just six offensive plays the Bulldogs held a 21-0 lead.

After opening up the first drive by recovering a West Blocton fumble, the Bulldogs need just two plays for standout running back Jamal Hourel to find the end zone.

Andalusia’s stifling defense had the West Blocton offense looking for running lanes that just never appeared.

It wasn’t until the second half after Andalusia’s starter had been removed that the West Blocton offense even sniffed the Bulldog’s side of the field.

Along with wreaking ball defense, Hourel picked up 119 yards and four touchdowns in the first half to lead the way for the Bulldogs.

Andalusia will have to hit the road in the second round of the playoffs to take on Dadeville. Dadeville finished the season 5-5 and got the No. 4 playoff seed from Region 3.

In the first round of the playoffs, Dadeville knocked off Region 1 No. 2 Thomasville 54-53 in a double-overtime thriller.

Since Dadeville traveled and won in the opening round, they Bulldogs will have to travel even though they are the higher seeded team.
