Sex offender captured in Mobile

A man police have been looking for since mid-January for failing to comply with the sex offender notification act was captured over the weekend.

Twenty-three-year-old Phuqan Lee James surrendered to Mobile County sheriff’s deputies on Friday afternoon.

“Mr. James was wanted by the Opp Police Department for violation of the Sexual Offender Notification Act,” OPD Chief Mike McDonald said.

James was held in the Mobile Metro Jail until he was returned to Covington County where he was remanded to the Covington County Jail.

James allegedly violated SORNA when he failed to report a change of address.

In early January he fled from ALEA Troopers around the Dozier Housing Authority.

Failing to report is a class C felony.
