Scarecrows are needed for this year’s “Scarecrows in the Park” event, which is held annually at Frank Jackson State Park in Opp.
The event, which is sponsored by the Frank Jackson Trailmasters, is in its ninth year and will take place in October and November.
Scarecrows in the Park Chairperson Barbara Tisdale said help is needed from businesses and individuals.
“This is a free way to advertise for two months,” she said.
Tisdale said that a variety of materials can be used for scarecrows, including PVC, wood, coat hangars, tomato cages, or other durable materials.
Tidsale said they will have three workshops for those who need helping making theirs.
The first will be next Tues., Aug. 30, at 6 p.m.
A second one will be held on Sept. 8 at noon, and the final one will be held on Thurs., Sept. 22, at 6 p.m., at the Opp Adult Activity Center on Brantley Street.
Those who make scarecrows can put up their displays Sept. 18 through Sept. 28.
“They can come and go to set up their scarecrows without paying park admission,” she said. “Just tell them you are here to set up the scarecrows.”
Those who need help setting theirs up may come Sept. 25-Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
On Sept. 25, someone will there from 1 p.m. until closing.
“We will have shifts of people to help you carry your materials to your sites on golf carts,” she said. “The gentlemen can help you drive poles into the ground and help with construction.”
Opening ceremonies will be held Fri., Sept. 30, at 10 a.m.
