The Straughn Lady Tigers (20-0) remain undefeated and clinched the regular-season area championship with a 3-1 victory over the Opp Lady Bobcats Tuesday night in Straughn.

In first set of the night, the Lady Tigers picked up a 25-14 victory.

Opp got the first point of the set, but the Lady Tigers came roaring back behind a pair of aces from Laura Lee Blatz.

Ashley Hughes and Hannah Lawless came up with big kills to give the Lady Tigers the win.

The second set of the night Straughn jumped out front and held off the Lady Bobcats for a 25-21 win.

Mandi Cottle got a kill to start the set followed by a block from Hughes. Sydney Kinsaul then picked up and ace to put the Lady Tigers up 4-0.

Opp continued to battle, but trailed 2-0 heading into the third set.

The Lady Bobcats were able to avoid the sweep with a 25-22 victory in game three.

Bailee Boyd, Millicent Nolan and Maggie Short each had big points to help the Lady Bobcats to a win in game three.

The Lady Tigers came out strong in the fourth set and held off the Lady Bobcats for a 25-15 win.

“I felt like we played loose and played as a team tonight,” Straughn head coach Daniel Rodgers said. “We knew coming in that Opp was going to be a tough opponent. We knew we would have to come in playing on all cylinders, and for the most part I felt like we did that.”

With the victory, the Lady Tigers earn the right to host next month’s area tournament.

“I thought we played great,” Opp head coach Bridgett Brantley said. “We still are passing the way we need to, but we have 10 games left to improve on that. We will be ready when we come back here for the area tournament.”
