The Andalusia Adult Activity Center is looking for locals to help make a love garden.

Director Sonja Godwin said the project is essentially two-fold.

First, the project will give patrons a place to enjoy the sunshine. Secondly, the project honors a loved ones who are living or deceased.

“We would like to enhance our building,” she said. “We’ve gotten in a new parking lot and put roses and straw out.”

Godwin said that sunshine generally makes everyone feel better.

“We got to talking and it would be a way for those who have lost loved ones to honor them,” she said. “But it is also a way to enhance the lives of our clients.”

Godwin said that those who will get to enjoy the green space will be able to see squirrels and other parts of nature.

“We are asking that they make a donation in honor of their loved ones,” she said. “Either through a money donation or buying the items we have picked out. Most of the items we have picked out are low maintenance.”

Godwin said there are several who attend the AAC who love to plant and garden.

“We are definitely going to let them go out and help us plant, if they are able,” she said. “The fence we have picked out has a 40-year warranty and the benches have a 20-year warranty.”

Godwin said they estimate needing at least $6,000 to make the project come to fruition.

The following is a list of items needed:

  • Benches (2) at $800 each;
