The Florala Wildcats (0-5) hit the road Friday night as they look to become potential playoff spoilers when the take on Class 1A, Region 2 foe Houston County (4-3).

Friday night will be just the fifth meeting between Florala and Houston County, and the first meeting since 2003.

The series is currently tied at 2-2 with Florala winning the last meeting 37-16 in 2003.

This season, the young Wildcats have seen some success and a lot growth this season even though it hasn’t shown on the scoreboard, Florala head coach Brad Rhodes said.

“I really feel like we have progressed each week,” Rhodes said. “The kids are starting to look more confident. Even though it hasn’t started showing much on the scoreboard, you can tell that the kids are starting to play with more experience.”

Through the first five games Florala has scored 41 points and given up 272. Last week, the Wildcats played a strong game, but fell 59-20 to Pleasant Home.

Houston County comes into the game with a two-game losing streak, but is currently in fourth place in the Region 2 with a 2-2 region-record.

Houston County and Red Level are currently sitting at 2-2 in the region, but Houston County holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Red Level.  A Florala win over Houston County could help out Red Level if the Tigers are able to knock off Brantley.
