The Florala Wildcats are looking for a strong season and to continue make strides before the opening tip.

“I believe we are going to be faster than we have been in the past,” Wildcats’ head coach Troy Stewart said. “We won’t be as big on the inside, but what we lack in size we will make up in speed.”

The Wildcats begin team practices a few weeks ago, but Stewart said that the boys have been working on other things throughout the summer.

“This kids have really put in a lot of work running and getting stronger over the summer,” Stewart said. “Now, we have a had a some really good practices, and I like what I’m seeing. At this point, we are clicking as much as any team I’ve ever coached. That’s what you want to see this time of the year, and just continue to progress as the year goes along.”

This season, the Wildcats return three seniors in Trey Burleson, Lane Craig and Jacob Pounce. Stewart said that aside from the three seniors, the rest of the Wildcats are underclassmen.

“Every coach expects their seniors to be the leaders on the court, and it’s no different here,” Stewart said. “We preach being humble as a team and putting God first, I need for my senior leaders to help show that to the younger guys on and off the court.”

Florala begins the year on the road against Geneva County on Nov. 15.

Florala’s first home game will be against Red Level on Nov. 17.
