County BOE continues hiring

The Covington County Board of Education made a number of hiring decisions Tuesday in preparation for the 2017-18 school year.

The board hired:

  • Janet Diane Norris as lunchroom worker at Fleeta.
  • Michalyn Hope Hinson as English language arts teacher at Florala High.
  • Leigh P. Newby as English teacher at Florala High School.
  • April Thrower as special ed teacher at Florala High.
  • Kimberly Byrd as elementary teacher at Pleasant Home.
  • Joseph Allen Watson as bus driver at Pleasant Home.
  • Angela Sue Seymour as bus driver at Pleasant Home.
  • Elizabeth Barrow Taylor as lunchroom worker at Pleasant Home.
  • Jaxson T. Lee as paraprofessional at Red Level High.
  • Griffin Tucker Windham as paraprofessional at Straughn Elementary.
  • Charles Michael Pridgen as general science teacher at Straughn High.
  • Todd Alan Lancaster as general science teacher at Straughn High School.
  • Taylor B. Weeks as general social science teacher at Straughn High
  • Molly Bailey as English teacher at Straughn High.
  • Emily Skipper as collaborative education at WS. Harlan Elementary.
  • Tyler Steven Zessin as physical education teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary.
  • Jerry Merrill as bus mechanic at Covington County Schools.

The board accepted the resignations of:

  • Jennifer Kaye Supri as English teacher at Red Level High.
  • Megan Ford McGlaun as English teacher at Straughn Middle School.

The board non-renewed the contract of Andrea Leigh Smith as custodian at Straughn Elementary.

The board approved two transfers based on changes in state funding for reading coaches. The system had five reading coaches, Superintendent Shannon Driver said, and now has three. As a result, the board:

  • Transferred Kristin G. Powell from reading coach at Pleasant Home to part-time reading coach at PHS and part-time reading coach at Red Level Elementary.
  • Transferred Allison B. Thomasson from library media specialist at Straughn Middle to reading coach at Fleeta Junior High and W.S. Harlan.

The board also transferred:

  • Lori Craft Griffin from teacher at Red Level Elementary to elementary teacher at Pleasant Home.
  • Curtis Brandon Davis from collaborative K-6 teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary to collaborative K-6 teacher at Fleeta Junior High.
