The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs bounced back from a Monday night loss with a pair of wins Tuesday in the Straughn High School Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament.

ANDALUSIA 54,

GEORGIANA 48

In the first game of the day, the Lady Bulldogs went up early and held off the Lady Panthers for a 54-48 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs won the opening tip and Shalisa Thomas dropped in a layup to give Andalusia an early lead.

After forcing a turnover on the other end, Gracie Wilcox grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up for an easy bucket.

The Lady Bulldogs continued their strong start when Alex Crittenden put in a layup off an inbound pass.

Georgiana cut the lead in half with a 3-pointer from Tenasia Gordon to make it 6-3 early in the first period.

A few moments later, Thomas hit a pair of free throws to push the Lady Bulldogs’ lead up to 8-3 with just under five minutes remaining in the opening period.

Andalusia continued to extend their lead with a bucket from Crittenden and Jamie Blue.

Thomas added another basket a few minutes later off an assist from Katie Black to put the Lady Bulldogs up 15-7 late in the first period.

Crittenden closed out the period with a free throw as the Lady Bulldogs were on top 16-12 heading into the second period.

Georgiana came out scoring the first three points of the second period to leave the Lady Bulldogs with a 1-point lead with just under seven minutes before halftime.

Crittenden then dropped in a layup off an assist from Blue.

After forcing a stop on the other end of the court, Black was left alone in the corner where she buried a long jumper to give the Lady Bulldogs a 20-15 lead.

Georgiana cut back into the lead with back-to-back buckets from Mia Crenshaw and Aaliyah Rich.

Crittenden followed with a strong drive and layup through traffic to bring the Lady Bulldog lead up to 22-19.

The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead halfway through the second period when Black hit both ends of a one-and-one attempt to put Andalusia up 25-19.

Black then forced got a steal and quickly turned into a layup.

Crittenden followed suit with a steal of her own that she pushed down the court for a layup to give the Lady Bulldogs a 29-22 lead late in the second period.

Kabrecia Presley tacked on a jumper with just under a minute to push the Lady Bulldogs up to a 31-22 lead.

With the clock inching towards zero, Taz Sheridan hit a buzzer-beater from downtown to give the Lady Bulldogs a double-digit lead at halftime.

Crittenden got a free throw to start the third period and then a jumper from Black had the Lady Bulldogs on top 37-26.

A rebound and put back from TyEshia Reed had the Bulldogs on top 39-26.

Later in the period, Black played string music from the corner to help give the Lady Bulldogs a 41-36 lead heading into the final period.

Black got things started in the fourth period with another jumper and then Thomas followed with a long jumper to put Andalusia on top 45-38.

Black continued to shoot solid from the corner as she hit another jumper to give the Lady Bulldogs a 47-38 lead.

Crittenden then got a pair of layups off assists from Sheridan to put the Lady Bulldogs up 51-44 late in the period.

Crittenden capped off the scoring with a layup and drew a foul on the play. She knocked down the free throw to put give the Lady Bulldogs a 54-48 victory.

ANDALUSIA 60,

PIKE COUNTY 29

The Lady Bulldogs continued their offensive surge with a 60-29 victory over Pike County in the battle for fifth place.

Wilcox pulled down and offensive rebound and put it back up to give the Lady Bulldogs an early 2-0 lead.

Pike County then got a layup followed by a 3-pointer to go up 5-2.

Crittenden answered with a 3-pointer to knot the game at 5-5.

A few moments later, Crittenden drove the lane with a layup to put the Lady Bulldogs up 7-5.

Sheridan then buried a 3-pointer to give Andalusia a 10-5 lead at the end of the first period.

Crittenden opened up the second period with a pair of 3-pointers to put the Lady Bulldogs up 16-5.

After Pike County broke a nine-minute scoring drought, Sydney Arnett dropped in a layup off an assist from Black.

Black then found Arnett under the basket again to put the Lady Bulldogs on top 20-7.

A free throw and layup from Arnett put the Lady Bulldogs on up 23-10 at halftime.

In the third period, Wilcox and Brittany Rutherford both knocked down a pair of free throws to put Andalusia on top 39-18.

The Lady Bulldogs’ Reed kicked it into high gear in the fourth with eight points in the period to help lead Andalusia to a 60-29 victory.

“I thought we played much better tonight,” Andalusia coach Bridges Anderson said. “We had better ball control and our rebounding was a little better… I was really surprised with how well our center (Reed) played. She has really stepped up her game. Alex (Crittenden) and Katie (Black) both played extremely well. Overall, for what little time I’ve had them I thought we played O.K. We still have things that we need to improve on, but if we continue to play tough defense and get better at rebounding, we are going to be just fine. The scoring is going to come. I just really want to thank Dr. Shakespeare and the Board of Education for giving me this chance to coach the Lady Bulldogs. We are looking forward to a great year.”
