The Andalusia Bulldogs (12-1) and the UMS-Wright Bulldogs (11-2) are set up for a rematch on Friday night in the Class 4A semifinal contest in Andalusia.

Being Region 1 foes, Andalusia and UMS-Wright met back in September in a game that ultimately decided the region winner.

Andalusia was able to pull out a 27-20 overtime victory over UMS-Wright.

That was the 14th time that the two teams had squared off and it was the first time that Andalusia was able to come out with a win over UMS-Wright.

After going down to Class 6A Shades Valley in the season-opener. (Shades Valley was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by No. 1 Austin), Andalusia has reeled 12 straight victories, thanks to a high-scoring offense and a stingy defense.

Andalusia set a school-scoring record for the season in last week’s win over Alabama Christian after scoring their 511th point of the year. This previous mark was 487 points, which was set by last year’s fourth-round playoff team. Andalusia is averaging 39.3 points a game this year and only allowing 15.5.

Andalusia’s offensive line sets the tone and has helped the Bulldogs put up some gaudy numbers in 2017.

Senior quarterback Ethan Wilson is 130-for-192 with 2,195 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions. Wilson has also rushed for 687 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Junior running back Roosevelt Weaver III is leading rusher with 159 carries for 1,173 yards and 12 touchdowns. Weaver has rushed for more than 100 yards in seven games this season despite missing a few games with an injury.

Andalusia’s leading wide receiver has been B.J. Anderson who has hauled in 58 catches for 1,177 yards and 14 touchdowns. Anderson also has a team-high seven interceptions on defense.

Sebaskin Stallworth has added 495 receiving yards with four touchdowns on 33 catches. Grant Holley has 20 catches for 251 yards and five touchdowns. R.J. Drish has 13 catches for 174 yards and four touchdowns.

On defense, Gill Morgan has led the Bulldogs five sacks. William Lindsey has five sacks, and Will Clark and Caleb Smallwood each have two sacks. Smallwood also has an interception and six rushing touchdowns.

UMS-Wright comes into the game with a three-game win streak after falling 9-0 to Class 6A St. Paul in the final-regular season game of the season.

UMS-Wright has scored 405 points this season and given up just 158. They are averaging 31.2 points per game and allowing 12.2.

The UMS-Wright offense continues to be one that wants to keep the ball on the ground with Symon Smith.

Smith has carried the ball 228 times for 1,761 yards and 16 touchdowns. In the loss to Andalusia, Smith had rushed the ball for 154 yards and a score on 20 carries.

UMS-Wright will throw the ball also with Will Chapman who has 960 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions passing this year.

Chapman threw for 55 yards and one touchdown in the loss to Andalusia, but also threw to crucial interceptions at the goal line that Andalusia’s Anderson came away with.

Andalusia is 1-2 all-time while playing at home in the semifinals. UMS-Wright is 2-3 all-time when playing on the road in the semifinals.
