There’s nothing like the scent of a real Christmas tree, and the people at the Covington County Tree Farm know that, but with a twist.

For those who decorate for the holidays with real Christmas trees, there is nothing like the scent.

The Covington County Tree Farm offers consumers that aroma, but with a twist that makes their trees more sensible.

Instead of offering a “cut-your-own-tree” experience, the CCTF offers living Christmas trees, which they say are safer.

The living trees are container kept, and are sold as is.

For the consumer, using a live tree is as simple as taking the tree home, placing it in a decorative pot, and then decorating it for Christmas.

After the holidays, the tree can be easily planted anywhere desired.

Not only that, living trees have none of the same problems a cut tree would have, like shedding needles or increased fire hazards.

“You could literally hold a lighter to our live trees, and they won’t light on fire,” Bruce Gibbs said. “Instead of killing a tree, you can help plant one.”

There are two options for their Christmas trees. A 6-foot, 15-gallon tree is $30, and a 4-foot, 7-gallon tree is $20.

“It’s not a bad price for something you can get multiple uses out of,” Gibbs said.

“These trees make a beautiful addition to your yard, and they grow pretty fast.”

Gibbs expects a lot of purchases of the living trees this weekend.

“Right after Thanksgiving is when people start buying,” Gibbs said.

The farm raises green giant cypress trees, and Leland Cyprus Trees.

The trees are micro-irrigated.

“It’s a great idea to buy a living tree, you still get the pretty Christmas tree with no needles everywhere, you get the same smell of a tree, with no fire hazard. The trees are very easy to transport, they’re lightweight. You can make memories when you buy one of our trees,” Gibbs said.

The Covington County Tree Farm is located at 19650 County Road 70. It’s open Mon.-Fri., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the holiday season, they are also open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
