Andalusia High School was placed on lockdown and Straughn Elementary and Middle School Extended Day Programs were placed on a soft lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

Covington County Schools Superintendent Shannon Driver said they were “just taking precaution.”

“Someone had gotten a notice about a lockdown in Andalusia,” he said. “Not sure where it came from but I think it was bogus. It didn’t have anything to do with Straughn.”

Andalusia City Schools Superintendent Ted Watson said the high school was placed on lockdown as a result of a Facebook post from an Andalusia person saying there was an active shooter.

“They were referencing something in Geneva,” Watson said. “Fake news.”

Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks said Tuesday afternoon his department had not been dispatched to anything of that nature.
