• Construction of the Covington County Courthouse, the county’s fifth, was approved in 1914.
• Most of the county board of revenue members who voted in favor lost in the next election.
• The process was stalled by a lawsuit, and the new board members selected a new architect, Frank Longwood of Montgomery, and the Little Clecker Construction Co. Longwood later designed the First National Bank Building in Andalusia, which sits across the square from the courthouse.
• The land and construction cost approximately $110,000 plus architect’s fees, county records show. The would be about $2 million in today’s dollars.
• There have been two additions since 1917. The last major renovation was in the early 1970s. During the renovation, cases were tried in the basement of the Methodist church, and at the National Guard Armory.
