Blueberry, Moon pie, to fall on Alabama New Year’s Eve

There are no community-wide New Year’s events in Covington County this weekend, so The Star-News compiled a list of events within driving distance.

  • Gantt: Cypress Landing RV Park will celebrate the coming New Year on Sat., Dec. 30, at 6 p.m. with the Country Rhythm and Blues Band. Tickets are $15 for park guests and $20 for others. The price includes a meal – pulled pork, hamburger or hot dog with two sides and a drink. Call 388.1008 for information or reservations.
  • Brewton: The 2017 Blueberry Drop begins at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will end at midnight. It will include musical performances by Bobby Moore and the Rhythm Aces, Will Easley and Karen Cover. There will also be a firework display. The Blueberry Drop will be located a Jennings Park, downtown.
  • Dothan: The 2nd Annual New Year’s Eve Downtown Countdown will start with family fun from 7-9 p.m. which will be followed by live music that starts at 9 p.m. on the Budlight Stage right next to all the action. Seconds before midnight strikes they will drop the peanut and begin fireworks Festivities will be located at Pioneer Park.
  • Bellingrath Gardens, Mobile, will be open New Year’s Eve for people to walk through and admire the 22nd year of Magic Christmas in Lights.
  • Mobile: After touring Bellingrath Gardens you can make your way to downtown Mobile to celebrate its 10th year of dropping the moon pie. The festivities will start at 8 p.m. and will go to midnight with musical performances by The Port City Secondliners, the Springs and George Clinton.
  • Montgomery: Downtown New Year’s Eve Countdown is set for Riverwalk Park. It starts at 9 p.m. with music by Federal Expression and fireworks. Admission is $3 in advance and $5 at gate.
