PLAYING DOWN TO THE WIRE: Andy Bulldogs push past Monroe County

The Andalusia Bulldogs split varsity contest on Monday night with Monroe County in Andalusia.

BOYS

ANDALUSIA 55,

MONROE COUNTY 54

In the final game of the evening, the Bulldogs got a bucket from B.J. Anderson in the final seconds to push the Bulldogs past Monroe County 55-54.

The Bulldogs opened up the game with baskets from Keaun Samuel and R.J. Drish to help Andalusia take an early 9-1 lead.

Monroe County responded and went up 12-9 heading into the second period.

Starting out the second period, Anderson was fouled in the act of making a shot. Anderson’s free throw was good to tie the game.

Trey Wilkerson knocked down a 3-pointer a few minutes later to put Andalusia up 21-17.

Back-to-back layups from Drish and Anderson then had the Bulldogs up 25-17.

At halftime, the Bulldogs were on top 25-22.

Monroe County then rallied to go up 29-27.

Anderson tied the game at 33-33 with a pair of free throws with just over two minutes left in the period.

The Bulldogs then took the lead when Roosevelt Weaver picked up a steal and a fast-break layup.

Heading into the fourth, the Bulldogs were up 38-34.

Both teams continued to battle in the final period, with Monroe County tying the game 52-52 with 1:13 left to play.

Monroe County then took the lead with just a few seconds left on the clock.

With time running out, Anderson pulled down an offensive rebound and put it back up to tie the game.

Anderson was fouled on the play and then sank his free throw to give Andalusia a 55-54 lead with 7 seconds left on the clock.

Anderson led the Bulldogs with 18 points.

GIRLS

MONROE COUNTY 37, ANDALUSIA 31

In the opening game, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Monroe County 37-31.

Andalusia will be back in action tonight as they take on W.S. Neal at home.

The Bulldogs will wrap up area play on Friday with a road trip to Atmore to take on Escambia County.

The Bulldogs’ varsity boys can clinch the regular season area title with victories this week over W.S. Neal and Escambia County.
