The Andalusia Bulldog varsity soccer team looks to build off last year’s Final Four run as they hit the pitch for the 2018 season.

“I think the biggest thing for us is to build off of last season’s success,” Bulldog head coach Jarret Williamson said. “We don’t want to be complacent. We want to get better every day.”

In just their third day of practice, Williamson said he is pleased with what he is seeing.

“We have been out here since Monday and the kids have really gotten after it each day,” Williamson said. “The older guys and girls are keeping everyone focused. They want to build off last year.”

Williamson said they have few returning starters from last year’s team that made it to the state semifinal game.

“There is no doubt that we lost some good players from last year’s team,” Williamson said. “We also have a good group coming back and some really good young players coming up. I’m really liking the attitude that all of the players have had so far at practice.”

The senior Bulldogs will be one the team’s strengths, Williamson said.

“Our strength is going to be our seniors,” Williamson said. “They are a solid group that plays really well together. They are excellent leaders, and that’s going to be very important for us. The seniors are going to do what they do, but how good of a team we are going to be is going to depend a lot on the younger ones stepping up.”

The Bulldogs will begin the season on Feb. 12 when they take on Charles Henderson at home.
