The Straughn Lady Tigers battled from behind to take down Slocomb on Tuesday night in the Class 3A, Area 3 tournament in Geneva.

In the opening period, the Lady Tigers struggled for points and were down 12-4 going into the second period.

Alyssa Dean picked up all four points for the Lady Tigers in the opening period.

The Lady Tigers came clawing back in the second period and showed Slocomb they weren’t going to back down without a fight.

Dean’s strong night continued as she dropped in six points for the Lady Tigers, including a big 3-pointer that helped Straughn take a 20-19 lead into halftime.

Allie Kelly and Cobly Adams each finished the second period with three points.

Caroline Wood and Kylie Wilson each finished the second period with two points.

The Lady Tigers came out on a tear in the third period and continued to build their lead.

Once again, it was Dean leading the way for the Lady Tigers with nine points in the third period.

Kelley was big at free-throw line as she went 4-for-4 for the stripe in the third period.

Heading into the final period, the Lady Tigers were up 35-30.

With one period left between them and the area championship game, the Lady Tigers made their shots count in the final frame as they held off Slocomb for a 52-48 win.

Dean was nearly perfect  from the free-throw line as she went 7-for-8 in the fourth period.

Dean’s seven points paced the Lady Tigers in the final frame.

Kelley tacked on six points in the fourth period and Wood added four points.

With the win, the Lady Tigers will take on Geneva this Thursday for the area championship game.

Dean led the way for the Lady Tigers with 26 points in the win. She finished the night 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Dean also had six 2-pointers and a pair of 3-pointers to lead the way for the Lady Tigers.

Kelley finished the game with 15 points for the Lady Tigers.

Wood finished the night with six points.

Adams came in with three points.

Wilson rounded out the scoring for the Lady Tigers with two points in the win.

The win also means the Lady Tigers will advance to next week’s sub-regional contest.

If Straughn defeats Geneva on Thursday, the Lady Tigers would next week’s sub-regional game.

If they lose to Geneva, the will have to travel for sub-regionals.
