First United Methodist Church of Andalusia will have luncheon services each Wednesday during Lent. The services will be held at noon in the sanctuary, and will be followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Lent is a 40-day period preceding Easter, considered a holy and sacred time to get ready spiritually for Jesus’ death on the cross and to look forward to Resurrection Sunday.

“Lent is typically thought of as a time to give up something,” Dr. Jason Thrower of FUMC said. “We are invited to think of lent not only as a time to give up something, but also a time to ‘add to’. ‘Add to’ by spending more time each day in prayer and Bible reading as well as additional time worshipping the Lord.”

“These Lenten services promise to be a wonderful way to reflect, examine our lives, and to ‘add to’ which will hopefully inspire a renewed dependence on Jesus for all things,” Thrower said.

FUMC’s Lenten series begins this week, on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Speakers include:

• Dr. Darren McClellan, Wed., Feb. 14. He has served a number of churches including Perdido Bay United Methodist church.
• The Rev. Diane Everette, Wed., Feb. 21. She has been serving Mt. Zion United Methodist Church since 2014 and now pastors Mt. Zion and Red Level United Methodist Churches.
• Bishop David Graves, Wed., Feb. 28. He has served as a senior pastor at Church Street United Methodist Church in the Holston Conference and has served six years as superintendent of the Kingsport District. He is now the Bishop of the Alabama-West Florida Conference.
• The Rev. John Brooks, Wed., Mar. 7. He has served in Pensacola and in 2014 was appointed as the District Superintendent of the Montgomery-Prattville District.
• The Rev. Dan Morris, Wed., Mar. 14. In 2011 he was appointed as Dothan District Superintendent. He now serves as pastor of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.
• Dr. Cory Smith, Wed., Mar. 21. Since 2016 he has served as pastor of Auburn United Methodist Church.
