The Andalusia Ballet would like to invite anyone who is looking to unwind and relax, or is interested in trying yoga, to come to their community yoga class this Sat., Feb. 17.

The class will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will be $5. It will be a beginner’s class so any one is welcome regardless of experience. Addy Gantt will be the instructor.

The proceeds from the class will go to the Dancer’s Enrichment Fund to help send four dancers from the Andalusia Ballet Senior Dance Company – Lindsey Stevens, Emily Ward, Sarah Beth Wriston and Paige Landreneau – to New York City to participate in the Youth America Grand Prix. The dancers got this opportunity by making it to the semifinals in Atlanta.

The Youth America Grand Prix is the world’s largest global network of dance. It fulfills its mission of dance education through scholarship auditions, master classes, alumni services, educational and outreach activities, performances, and films.

The community yoga class will be the first of three fundraisers to help raise money for the girls going to NYC.

The second will be a rummage sale, set for 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Church Street Cultural Arts Centre.

Donations to the rummage sale are welcome, and may be dropped off at the Church Street Centre on Friday afternoon, March 2, from 5 – 7 p.m. or on Saturday morning, March 3, from 7 – 7:30 a.m.

The final fundraiser is a send-off brunch set for Sat., Apr. 14. Tickets are $35 and can be bought at the Andalusia Ballet studio.

“We are so excited to be doing this to help raise funds for these girls,” Gantt said. “They worked so hard to make it to the semifinals in Atlanta and are the only ones in Andalusia Ballet history to make it to the New York City competition.”

The yoga class will be held at the ballet studio at 420 Church Street, Andalusia.
