FIGHTING TO THE FINISH: LBWCC Saints split with Coastal Alabama South

The LBWCC Saints put forth strong efforts as they split games with the Coastal Alabama South Sun Chiefs on Thursday night in Andalusia.

WOMEN

LBWCC 73,

COASTAL SOUTH 66

In the opening game of the evening, the Lady Saints battled back and pulled out a 73-66 overtime win.

The Lady Saints started the opening period strong with Zairria Britton leading the charge with eight points.

Brittany Lee knocked down a pair of free throws early in the opening period to put the Lady Saints up 8-3.

The Lady Sun Chiefs connected with a back-to-back 3-pointers to take the lead away from LBWCC.

Lee answered back with a 3-pointer, but the Lady Saints trailed 22-13 at the end of the first period.

Britton continued to play strong and picked up the first two second period buckets for the Lady Saints.

A few minutes later, Keyaria James knocked down a 3-pointer and Shun Stephen hit a pair of free throws that trimmed the Lady Sun Chiefs’ lead down to 34-27.

The Lady Sun Chiefs then got back-to-back scores to go on top 37-27 at halftime.

Shatavia O’Neal got the first bucket of the third period for LBWCC, but the Lady Saints still trailed by 10 points.

The Lady Sun Chiefs pushed the lead up to 46-32, but then the Lady Saints began to surge back into the contest.

The Lady Saints got a quick bucket from Madison Clayton and then a score from Kierra Jackson.

LBWCC cut deeper into the lead when Lee nailed a 3-pointer to cut the Lady Sun Chiefs’ lead down to 47-39 late in the third period.

The Lady Saints continued to deplete the Lady Sun Chief lead as Mariah Scott hit a jumper from the elbow.

Heading into the final period, the Lady Saints were down 50-43.

Clayton got things rolling for the Lady Saints in the fourth period when she drew a foul while making a layup.

Clayton hit the and-one opportunity to leave the Lady Saints trailing 50-46.

After a basket from Stephen a few minutes later, Scott was fouled in the process of making a shot.

Scott hit her free throw to tie the game 55-55 with 6:29 left in regulation.

Scott then gave the Lady Saints the lead with layup, but the Lady Sun Chief tied the game once again.

The Lady Saints appeared to be pulling away as three-straight scores gave them a 63-57 lead late in the fourth.

The Lady Sun Chiefs weren’t going to go down easily and a short run got them in striking distance.

As the clock was inching to zero, the Lady Sun Chiefs hit a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, Britton tallied four points to help left the Lady Saints to a 73-66 win.

Britton led the Lady Saints with 18 points.

Scott finished the night with 13 points and Lee came in with 12 points.

MEN

COASTAL SOUTH 74, LBWCC 64

In the final game of the evening, Coastal Alabama took control of the game from the tip and cruised to a 74-64 win.

The Sun Chiefs got the first bucket of the game, but LBWCC came right back with a bucket from Roger Davis to tie the game.

After the bucket from Davis, the Sun Chiefs opened up the flood gates and quickly built a 22-6 lead.

The Sun Chiefs continued to shoot well as they held a 35-21 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Sun Chiefs led by as much as 22 before the Saints made a small run to trim it down to 10 points.

Travious Jones led the Saints with 20 points and Landrius Horton finished the game with 12 points.
