Red Level man charged in death

A Red Level man has been arrested and charged in the 2017 death of an Andalusia man, WDHN  in Dothan is reporting.

Kolby Michael Bennett, 30, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide.

According to the warrant, in 2017 Bennett caused the death of 27-year-old Nicholas Tyler Bolling by accidentally shooting Bowling while showing him a gun in the Shiloh community.

According to Star-News archives from last February, Elba Police responded to the scene of a shooting at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 East and County Road 501 just after 4 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2017. Officers found that a male subject had sustained a single gunshot wound.

Elba Police Chief Freddy Hanchey said then that the subject’s coworkers were performing CPR on him when police officers and emergency medical responders from Coffee County EMS arrived. The emergency responders took over the CPR efforts at that time.

Bennett was booked into the Coffee County Jail with a $100,000 bond.
