The Andalusia Ballet will host members of the Alabama Ballet for a master class and performance next weekend.

Meryane Murphy said Andalusia Ballet received a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to bring company dancers from the Birmingham group to Andalusia.

“We’ve been kind of involved with them a long time,” Murphy said. “We see their performances, and we had a group who did their summer intensive last year. We have wanted to something with them for a while.”

Thanks to the Arts Council grant, local students can study with company members Friday night and Saturday, and simultaneously audition for Alabama Ballet’s summer intensive on Saturday. On Saturday night, both the professional company and local dancers will perform.

“It’s a great experience for our dancers to be around a professional company,” Murphy said.

Alabama Ballet will perform the Act II of Swan Lake, and the the pas de deux from Don Quixote.

“Our dancers will watch Swan Lake and Don Quixote, then be on the stage as part of a ballet called Etudes.

Tickets to Saturday night’s performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m., are $15, and are available at the ballet and at The Star-News.
