A local researcher that completed the 1,200-mile long trip along the Mexico-Texas border has published a book about his journey.

Mark Hainds, LBWCC’s forestry instructor, began his walking journey on Oct. 27 in 2014, and completed it late last year.

Hainds split his time walking the trek on breaks in school, spring breaks, Thanksgiving breaks and Christmas breaks. Last summer, as he walked the Arizona border, the heat forced him to hike only at night.

His journey was filmed by Rex Jones and the Southern Documentary Project and was aired on PBS.

To date, his exhaustive effort has left him the first person to walk the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Border Walk” tells of Hainds’ journey along the border as well as explaining life along the border of Mexico.

The book is available on Amazon.
