Saints rally past Bishop State for victory

The LBWCC Saints fell behind early, but rallied late to knock off Bishop State 9-8 on Saturday in Andalusia.

Bishop State opened up the game with a single and then three-straight two-out walks put them on top 1-0.

The Wildcats then doubled to go up 4-0 in the opening frame.

The Saints chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Walker Messer drove in Casey Henderson.

Bishop State then extended its lead to 8-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, Messer drove in a run with a single to get the Saints rolling.

Ko Powell followed with a two-run hit to cut the Wildcats’ lead down to 8-4 with no outs.

Matthew Christian then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Jesse Hall drove in Chauncey Callier to cut the Bishop State lead down to two runs.

After a run scored off of an error, Messer drove in the tying run with a single.

Trevor Shelton singled with one-out in the bottom of the sixth inning and was pitch run for by Jarius Colley.

Colley stole second a few pitches later and then came around to score the go-ahead run.

The Saints held off the Wildcats in the final frame to pick up the 9-8 victory.

Messer finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Powell finished with one hit, drove in one run and scored one run.

Henderson scored three runs and drove in one run.

Chapman Dean earned the win on the mound.
