Smith to address LBWCC grads

LBW Community College officials announced this week that Gary Smith, PowerSouth CEO, will be the guest speaker for the 2018 commencement ceremony at 2 p.m., Fri., May 11, 2018, at the Kiwanis Community Center in Andalusia.
“We are excited to announce Mr. Smith’s acceptance of the invitation to speak to our graduates this year,” said LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel.
“He brings a wealth of experience to share as leader of one of the largest employers in this area,” he said. “He is committed to education, the community, and economic development, and we welcome his remarks as our graduates begin a new chapter in their lives.”
Smith took the helm of PowerSouth 18 years ago, after first serving as vice president of legal and corporate affairs, director of legal affairs, and staff attorney. Previous experience includes practicing law in Birmingham and working with Pemco Aeroplex.
He earned a juris doctorate degree from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law in 1979, and a bachelor of science degree in accounting and economics from the University of North Alabama in 1976.
Smith serves on the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama Board and numerous board-affiliated with the electric cooperative program. He has also served on the Electric Power Research Institute and Business Council of Alabama boards of directors.
