The Andalusia Chamber Music Society (ACMS) presents the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Faculty Brass Quintet in concert on April 6, 2018, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on East Three Notch Street in Andalusia, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“Trumpets, trombone, horn, and tuba make up the sounds of this brass quintet with all members being faculty in the UAB music program,” said Dr. Herb Riedel, ACMS co-founder.

Funded by the John H. and Grace McMillan Estep Charitable Foundation, the ACMS begins its sixth season with the spring concert.

Performers include Dr. James Zingara and Dr. Steve Roberts, both on trumpet; James Baker, euphonium; Jeff Koonce, trombone; and Dr. Eli Westerfield, tuba.

The UAB Faculty Brass Quintet was established in 2011 and is dedicated to educational outreach through performance of free school shows for elementary and secondary music programs throughout the state and region.

The group participates in the annual Brass Symposium, campus recitals, numerous regional school performances and clinics, and commencement exercises. In addition, the quintet performs a series of monthly noontime pops concerts in the University Hospital atrium. Their experience includes performances at the College Music Society Southern Conference, and two European tours in Germany, Latvia, and the Czech Republic.

The performance in Andalusia will include music by Ewazen, Cheetham, Gabrieli, Copland, and others. A reception will follow the performance.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students, and are available at LBW Community College president’s office in Andalusia, Harold’s Furniture, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Office, or at the door.
