The Megan Kelley Smiles Foundation will be selling yard signs as a fundraiser for the upcoming 5K.

Anyone can purchase a sign in honor or in memory of someone who has battled, is battling or has battled with cancer. The signs will be placed along the 5K route as a reminder to the runners of the cause for which they are running.

The sign will include a picture of the person being sponsored and will include a statistic that is specific to the type of cancer they have or had.

“This is a way to honor or memorialize someone you love,” Donna Kelley, mother of Megan Kelley, said.

Signs are $30, and can be placed on the route of the 5K each year for no additional charge.

The 5K, sMiles for Megan, is held in memory of Megan Kelley, a local teen who battled cancer for almost two years. During that time, her smile and positive attitude helped bring the message of Christ to others.

The foundation’s mission is to help anyone age 19-26 who has to travel for medical care. The foundation pays for gas, food and lodging.

When the sign is purchased, the person will have to take a good photo of the person who is being honored to Tony at Pirate Graphics.

To purchase one of the signs, contact Kelley at 334-235-3895 or Carla Helms at 334-343-0635.

The 2018 sMiles for Megan 5K will be held on Sat., May 5 at 8 a.m.

It is the largest local 5K and has drawn more than 500 participants in the past.

Registration forms are available at J.M. Jackson, First South Farm Credit and Southern Independent Bank. Pre-registration is also available online at www.mksmiles.org.
