Tigers push past PHS Eagles

The Straughn Tigers held off the Pleasant Home Eagles for an 8-7 victory on Tuesday in the final day of the Butch Youman’s Memorial tournament in Opp.

Pleasant Home got things started in the top of the first inning and plated a run to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers responded in the bottom of the first inning when Clay Ashberry drove in Chandler Mitchell.

In the top of the third inning, Nick Woods drove in a run to put the Eagles up 2-1.

Straughn then came powering back in the bottom of the third inning.

Adam Anderson put the Tigers on top when he drove in a pair of runs with a double.

Ashberry followed with a solo shot to give Straughn a 5-2 lead.

The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single from Mitchell and then sacrifice fly from Anderson had Straughn on top 7-2.

Pleasant Home took advantage of Straughn errors in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to cut the lead to 7-4 heading into the final frame.

Woods inched the Eagles closer with a RBI single and then scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles then scored the tying run off of a fielder’s choice.

In the bottom of the seventh, Caleb Meredith started the frame with a single and then moved to second on a balk.

Gabe Dunn then laced a pitch into the gap to drive in Meredith for the winning run.

This is was the second game of the day for both Pleasant Home and Straughn.

Pleasant Home lost to W.S. Neal 10-0 and Straughn fell 10-3 to New Brockton earlier in the day on Tuesday.
