The Mizell Memorial Hospital is introducing a capital fundraising project that could renovate their patient care rooms, nursing station and waiting room on the Medical and Surgical floor.

“Through the years, Mizell has grown in several phases with the last addition being completed in the mid 1970s,” Kristin Averitt, the marketing coordinator for Mizell, said.

“Throughout these changes, the medical/surgical floor has had very limited cosmetic updates. The patient care rooms, nursing station and waiting room are undeniably in need of renovation.”

The cost of renovation of each room varies based on room type and size.

Averitt says that having a hospital that can meet the needs of the people is important.

The “I’m IN” capital fundraising campaign hopes to raise $750,000 for the renovation of the medical and surgical floor.

All donations are welcome, but certain levels of donations will be recognized on the “I’m IN” wall. Those include $25,000 for a whole room; $10,000; $5,000; or $2,500. Fully sponsored rooms will have a plaque placed on the outside to show who sponsored the room or if the room was renovated “In Honor Of,” or “In Memory Of” someone.

“This is a fundraising effort to propel the hospital forward with a renewed commitment to the community,” Averitt said. “With your help, along with hospital employees and other community members, we can make this project a success.”

The “I’m IN” project was named to encourage the community to be involved, inspired and invested in the community and Mizell.

“This is to ensure that local healthcare is provided not only for this generation but for many generations to come,” Averitt said.

Averitt said the community seeks investors to call Opp home and that they must ensure continued growth and improvements of Mizell to attract investors.

“Along with quality health care, Mizell is a prime employer that enhances the quality of life in the area,” CEO, Jana Wyatt said.

“When families and businesses consider locating here they can be secure in the knowledge that their medical needs will be more than satisfied.”

Mizell is one of the largest employers in Opp, Averitt said.

“With approximately 220 employers, making (Mizell) vital to the economic survival of the community as well,” she said.

“By donating to this capital campaign, you can help Mizell ensure the future quality healthcare for the residents of the community.”

Averitt says she hopes members of the community will prove to be involved, invested and inspired in Mizell and the community.

In the future, the hospital hopes to incorporate fundraisers to help reach their goal.

To kick off the fundraising, the Estep Foundation donated money to renovate a showroom.
