The Covington County Board of Education approved the purchase of six 2019 school buses on Tuesday night.

The bid went to Southland International Bus Sales out of Birmingham for $75,104.01 each.

Superintendent Shannon Driver said that the reason there’s a need for an extra bus this year is because in 2010 the board did not purchase any buses at all.

“We are trying to make up for that by buying one extra bus every three years to catch up,” he said.

“This is a good bid price and we should buy these buses immediately due to the change of bid price on April 30.”
