A local charity is hosting its fourth annual golf tournament at the Andalusia Country Club.

Full Tummy Project is a 501(c)3 charity that is designed to provide a bag of food on Friday afternoons for children in Covington County who are at risk of hunger on the weekends.

School administrators determine students who are served by Full Tummy, and their identities are kept confidential. A nutritious breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items are placed in the child’s backpack each Friday.

The project helps more than 270 in seven different elementary schools each week.

“The project is school calendar based, so we send bags of food out on Fridays while school is in,” Katie King, the coordinator said.

“All the money we raise goes to the children’s food. We buy all our food from two local companies.”

The golf tournament is the project’s biggest fundraiser.

“It’s our largest fundraiser of the year and it’s our spring fundraiser. Last year we earned about $14,000,” King said.

“It’s just an overall fun event.”

This year the tournament will be on Tues., May 15, starting at 1 p.m. with a lunch at noon, for the golf teams.

The tournament is a four-person scramble.

“There’s also chances to buy points in the game,” King said.

“It’s always so much fun for anyone that plays. Everyone is so competitive. It’s for a great cause and truly helps the project.”

King says that she’s excited about the event.

“I feel like it will go really well this year. I’ve already had a number of hole sponsors and donations turned in,” she said.

“If anyone has an interest in sponsoring you can contact me.”

The cost to sponsor a hole is $100 and the cost for a team is $500.
