The Andalusia Bulldogs (22-4) made short work of  the Monroe County Tigers on Friday night in Andalusia to advance to the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs.

GAME ONE

ANDALUSIA 18,

MONROE COUNTY 0

In the opening game of the series, Ethan Wilson launched a pair of home runs and tossed a perfect game en route to an 18-0 victory.

Wilson struck out the first two batters he faced before getting a ground out to shortstop to end the frame.

Wilson was hit to start the bottom of the first and quickly stole second base and third base.

The Bulldogs went up 1-0 when Hogan Nichols drove in Wilson with a single.

Andalusia then scored two runs off of a throwing error by the Tigers’ pitcher.

J.W. Jones made the score 5-0 with a two-run single and then two more runs came in to score off a wild pitch and a dropped third strike.

On the mound, Wilson got a pop out and two more strikeouts.

The Bulldogs continued to lay the wood to the ball as they increased their lead to 10-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Wilson struck out the side in the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the third, Wilson gave the Bulldogs an 11-0 lead when he launched a solo home run. It was Wilson’s first home run of a four home run day.

A few innings later, Wilson launched a 3-run home run off of the batter’s eye behind the wall in dead center field to put Andalusia on top 16-0.

GAME TWO

ANDALUSIA 27,

MONROE COUNTY 0

In the second game, the Bulldogs continued to knock the cover off of the ball as they torched the Tigers for a 27-0 victory.

Wilson started the contest with his third home run in as many at bats to get the Bulldogs rolling.

Hogan Nichols had a big opening inning with three RBIs off of two doubles to help the Bulldogs out to a 9-0 lead.

With the big lead, Jacob Cravey went to mound dealing for the Bulldogs.

Cravey held the Tigers hitless and allowed just one runner to reach safely off of an error. Monroe County didn’t have a single hit in two games.

In the top of the second inning, the Bulldogs added nine more runs.

Sebaskin Stallworth and Nichols each had two-run home runs in the top of the third and Wilson capped off his night with a grand slam.

In order to speed up the game, the last nine batters for Andalusia simply laid down bunts and jogged in the direction of first base.

“First of all, it feels good to get past the first round,” Wilson said. “Everybody knows what happened to us last year. Really I was just thinking about that and trying to take it out on whoever our opponent was in the first round. I remember how it felt last year. It wasn’t a good feeling at all, but it feels good to get past the first round. Now we need to carry this into the second round, third round and so-on-and-so-forth. It feels good.”

Andalusia head coach Tyler Dent was pleased with what he saw from his team on Friday night.

“Going into it, our thing was we are worried about us. We aren’t concerned with who are opponent was,” Dent said. “I was proud of the way that we competed. As far as swinging the bat, pounding the strike zone and making plays in the field that’s what we are trying to do to get better as a team. Hopefully we can keep doing that.”

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday against the winner between UMS-Wright and Trinity.

If UMS wins, the game will be in Andalusia.

If Trinity wins, Andalusia will travel to Montgomery.
