HEADING TO GULF SHORES: Pleasant Home, Red Level secure spots for regional

The Pleasant Home Eagles clinched first place and Red Level came in second place in Tuesday’s Class 1A, Area 3 tournament in Pleasant Home to secure spots in the regional tournament in Gulf Shores.

GAME ONE

RED LEVEL 18,

MCKENZIE 2

In the opening game of the tournament, the Red Level Lady Tigers scored early and often on the way to an 18-2 victory.

Red Level took advantage of several walks and wild pitches to go on top 3-1 at the end of one inning of play.

The Lady Tigers then added five runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Red Level capped off the win with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Alyssa Stewart led the Lady Tigers going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Maggie Wilkerson and Elizabeth Cross drove in two runs each.

Tori Hall picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle.

GAME TWO

PLEASANT HOME 11,

RED LEVEL 1

In the second game of the day, the Pleasant Home Lady Eagles used a big third inning to knock off Red Level 11-1.

Cross started the top of the first inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alexis Perdue.

Cross then came around to score off of an error to put Red Level up 1-0.

In the bottom of the first inning, Hope Gunter drew a walk with one out in the frame.

The Lady Tigers got the next batter to pop out, but then Amy Kate Bulger put the Lady Eagles up 2-1 when she scorched a two-run home run over the fence in right-center field.

Pleasant Home continued to tear the cover off the ball in the bottom of the third inning as they brought in nine runs to go up 11-1.

GAME THREE

RED LEVEL 15,

MCKENZIE 0

Red Level earned a spot in the area championship game with a 15-0 win over McKenzie.

Cross dominated on the mound as she tossed a no hitter to pick up the win.

Perdue led the Lady Tigers with three RBIs.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

PLEASANT HOME 9,

RED LEVEL 4

In the area championship game, the Lady Eagles came away with a 9-4 victory to claim the championship

Runs were at a premium until the Lady Eagles broke through in the top of the fifth inning.

Pleasant Home loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth.

Bulger drove in one run with a fielder’s choice before an error allowed three more Pleasant Home runs to score.

The Lady Eagles added five more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-0 lead.

Red Level got on the board when Hall drove in Cross and Ashlyn Joyner with a single.

A few batters later, Kaitlyn Beverly singled to score Hall and Stewart to make the score 9-4 heading into the final frame.

Ansley Johnson drove in three runs for the Lady Eagles.

Ava Bailey struck out 11 batters for the Lady Eagles and picked up the win.

Both teams will advance to next week’s South Regional in Gulf Shores.
